You paddle out along the reed line where the boat traffic does not go, cross the open middle while it is still flat, and pull in below the waterfall for a break on the rocks before turning for home.
The waterfall is why people book it. The reed line on the way out is the better half — herons, flat water, and no engine noise on that side of the lake at all. The guide paces it to the slowest paddler.
Beginners are genuinely fine. Twenty minutes in the shallows first on strokes and what to do if you go in, and the sit-on-top boats are stable enough that almost nobody does.
Before you arrive
Bring a change of clothes and shoes that can get wet; you will at least get splashed. Sun cream and a hat between May and September — there is no shade on the open crossing. Phones go in the dry bag, not your pocket.
Things to consider
You must be able to swim 50 metres unaided. Minimum age 12, and under-16s share a double with an adult. Weight limit 110kg per boat. Not suitable during pregnancy or with a back or shoulder injury. The launch point is a short gravel slope, which is not wheelchair accessible.

Frequently asked
Do I need to be able to swim?
Yes — 50 metres unaided, unassisted by the buoyancy aid. We do ask, and we do mean it.
Will I get wet?
Splashed, certainly. Properly wet only if you go in, which is rare. Bring a change of clothes and shoes you do not mind soaking either way.
What is the minimum age?
Twelve. Under-16s go in a double with an adult rather than a solo boat.
What happens in bad weather?
High wind, lightning risk or unsafe water means we cancel, and you choose a full refund or another date. We call it the evening before wherever the forecast allows.
