Crawford Street had eleven soda fountains in 1948 and has three now. You visit all three, drink something at each, and hear what happened to the other eight — a story that turns out to be largely about parking regulations and the arrival of cheap refrigeration.
The last stop still works its original marble counter and pulls syrup by hand, which is rare enough now that people come a long way for it.
Open scheduling: turn up when it suits and join the next departure.
