You sit at the bench with eight numbered glasses and a scoring card, and you work through them one at a time — sweetness, acidity, how it finishes — before anything is revealed. The labels stay covered until the end.
Almost everyone walks in confident. The board at the close settles it, and whoever scores highest keeps the flight tray.
Three to a session, so every glass is poured fresh rather than shared out of a bottle that has been open since the last group.
Before you arrive
Arrive five minutes early; the lab door locks once scoring starts. Avoid coffee, mint and strong flavours for an hour beforehand — it genuinely affects your scores. Contains caffeine.
Things to consider
Not suitable for under-12s, who tend to score by colour. Tell us in advance about caffeine sensitivity and we will build you a decaf flight.
Included
- Eight-glass blind flight
- Scoring card and pencil
- Palate cleansers between pours
- Results reveal and panel tally
Not included
- Parking
- Anything to eat beyond the cleansers
Frequently asked
Do I need any tasting experience?
None. The scoring card walks you through what to look for, and the host explains each axis before the first pour. Most people score better than they expect on texture and worse than they expect on sweetness.
Is there a decaf option?
Yes. Tell us when you book and we will build the flight from caffeine-free variants. It changes the line-up but not the format.
Can I bring children?
Twelve and up works well. Below that, scoring tends to follow whichever glass looks darkest, which rather defeats the exercise.
